What a Distance I Have Traveled

There is a bobcat that lives down the road from me and AB. For three years we walked past her without seeing her. On this particular morning, I finally got to see her. Bobcats are one of the most elusive of animals. That I saw her beautiful face filled me with joy. I may never see her again, but I know she is there, watching us when we are out and about, concealed to all the world but for this rarest of mornings.

Every wild thing yearns for mobility and freedom–and life. I can’t imagine hunting, trapping, or torturing these beautiful animals. It is now hunting season. Time to be wary in the woods and make prayers for the wild things to be safe from harm.

To where a bobcat would trust herself to be seen by the likes of me.

What a distance I have traveled.
